5 out of 5 stars Easiest "Diet" to follow!   March 21, 2010
Elizabeth C. O'Hara (Santa Clara, CA)
Have you ever thought to yourself, "If I only had a guide to show me what I'm doing wrong in trying to lose weight"? If you have, this is the one book you should own, because it will show you exactly where you've been going wrong.

If you're like me, you've been thinking sentiment for a while! There I was, eating fruit, chocolate covered raisins, bagels, etc., and I thought I was being healthy in my eating habits. Well, I found out the sad truth by reading the labels and realizing how many carbs & sugars are in everything. Needless to say, it's been very eye opening. Another eye opening experience was having it laid out for me, what exactly, constitutes 1 serving! That blew my mind. I have probably been eating 4 or 5 servings in one sitting of some foods, without even realizing it!

This book has a few simple rules to follow, and they're easy to remember. The rest of the book contains recipes, food plans and a glossary which indicates the sugar/carb ratio in every day foods.

Because my fasting glucose was 152, and my doctor recommended this book, I decided to try this Lifestyle Change. Note, I did not say diet. I consider this to be a lifestyle change because I can see myself eating this way for the rest of my life. You will too.

I highly recommend that you go to the website listed in the book and get the free PDF that contains the carb/sugar check off sheets because it's a lot easier to keep track of what you're eating if you use those sheets.

I've already lost 5 lbs - probably I could have lost more if I hadn't fallen off the wagon in weeks 1 & 2, but I'm happy with what I've lost so far and expect to lose even more by my next doctor's appointment in July.

Some reviews have talked about the book falling apart and that didn't happen to me. Maybe they've already addressed this problem because my book was made of heavy paper and spiral bound. I like that it is spiral bound because it lays flat and this is what I need when I use the recipes. I have tried a few of the recipes and found them to be very tasty. Even my husband loved the dishes I made using this book.

Before I heard about The Belly Fat Cure, I was considering going on Jennie Craig! Thankfully, now, I don't have to! I highly recommend this book for everyone trying to lose weight whether the fat is in the belly or elsewhere. You won't regret buying this book.

5 out of 5 stars Food Knowledge   March 19, 2010

Although informative, I find it difficult to locate the majority of products mentioned in this book. Purchasing so many by mail would be prohibitive. Best suggestion: find subs (check calories, etc.).

1 out of 5 stars Plan is not for me!   March 15, 2010

I want to start by saying that for the people that this program works for....fantastic. I purchased this book and I returned it. I am a beliver that we depend on too much processed foods hidden with sugars and other bad things that are making us sick. The concept of reducing sugar and monitoring your carbs is not a new concept. I followed his plan for 3 weeks and I felt terrible at the end of that time frame. Yes, under the plan you are to restrict your sugars, but I think any plan that restricts plant based foods (fruits and vegetables) is not healthy for you. So it's OK for me to have a serving of Dorito's but can't eat an apple becuase it exceeds my amount of sugar for the day? I can have 5 blackberries? He does point out that there are a lot of items marketed as "healthy" when they really are not, and that's a step in the right direction to make people aware. But for people to only enjoy "a sliver" of bannana or 3 strips of red peppers - to me is missing the mark and the program is not truly healthy in the long run. I may be missing something, but it seems his plan relies MORE on processed foods. No Thanks!

same low-carb diet that's been around for ages. To sum it up ...limit of 15 grams of sugar per day, limited servings of carbs. Nothing new or helpful here, save your money.
