Product Description
The connection between inflammation and heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic ailments has become increasingly clear. Many food allergies and poor dietary choices overstimulate the immune system and cause inflammatory responses that erode the body’s wellness and pave the path for ill health. Based on her naturopathic practice, Jessica Black has devised a complete program for how to eat and cook to minimize and even prevent inflammation and its consequences. The first part of the book explains the benefits of the anti-inflammatory diet with an accessible discussion of the science behind it. The second half contains 108 recipes. The author offers many substitution suggestions and includes a healthy ingredient tip with each recipe. Most of the dishes can be prepared quickly and easily by even novice cooks. A week of sample menus for summer months and another for winter are included, as well as a substitutions chart, allowing readers to modify their favorite recipes to increase their healing potential.

5 out of 5 stars So glad I bought this book!   January 11, 2010

Since I suffer with inflammation in a major way, I was excited to find this book that not only explains
the problems with the normal "American" diet, but then gives you all these wonderful recipes to make and offers
solutions. I'm trying my best to implement these lifestyle changes and hopefully will see an improvement in
my health. Reading this book has taught me so much about nutrition and I look forward to continuing to
learn about the positive changes I can make to undo the damage caused by years of "faulty eating".

4 out of 5 stars Easy to follow recipes   January 5, 2010

I purchased this book for a multitude of reasons and have found the content useful and the recipes easy to follow and implement into my daily menu planning. This book is not an extreme approach to healthful eating which I appreciated. It is not suggesting you become a vegan to maintain a healthy lifestyle, just making slight augmentations to the diet can have a huge impact on how you feel and how your body responds to illness. I'm using this book in hopes that my daughter will have decreased issues with eczema and symptoms of asthma. As a family we are making these changes and I hope to prevent myself from developing heart disease which runs in my family. I think this is a great read and would highly recommend it. I only wish she had suggestions for further readings or recommendations for other cookbooks that she finds useful.

4 out of 5 stars best thought of as a cookbook   November 27, 2009

'The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book.." comes in two sections. The first section, about 50 pages, talks about what is an anti-inflammation diet and why it is important. I found this discussion to be interesting but a bit too concise. No doubt this was done on purpose to allow for the 100+ recipes that the rest of the book contains. These recipes are quite diverse, sometimes exotic, and always very easy to follow. Every week I try a new recipe and have yet to be disappointed.

Bottom line: light on science, but otherwise delicious. Recommended.

I've been reading a lot about the anti inflammation diet as an excellent way to prevent all that horrible cancer, heart disease and diabetes type stuff, so I thought 'yep. That's for me'. I bought The Anti Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book by Jessica K Black N.D. Well, what a let down. I was hoping for a book that bridged the gap between normal eating and saintly abstinence but this book was a disapointment. There were no pictures of any of the recipes because the food was so hideously unappetising that photographs would merely confirm one's worst suspicions and put you off entirely.
If the future is all quinoa, steamed vege and mung beans then I'd prefer to die young with a great big chocolaty smile all over my face. (not really) This is a book for hard core health freaks who detox at the drop of a hat and think nothing of removing 90% of normal food stuffs from their diet. If you have fussy kids, I do, the recipe suggestions are laughably impossible.

4 out of 5 stars Everything I wanted!   November 13, 2009

My Naturpathic physician recommended this book to me. I have been exposed to other books that are long on explanation and short on easy recipes. This book satisfies both my needs! It is easy to read and the recipes make sense and are easy to follow.
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an effective way to transition to an anti-inflammation diet.
